The Rules
Surviving
on the Island
New games start once every two weeks. Some examples might include tranquilizer
darts or competing to get each other's badges.
Winning
games
Prizes for winning a game may include: Nicer cabins for higher winners,
doubloons, food cooked by a gourmet chef, soap-on-a-rope and any number
of other perks the Island feels like giving.
Currency
Doubloons - Well known as pirate gold, pirates may have left their stashes
on the island at some point at which time it was ... confiscated. The
pirates are long dead but the doubloons are still available and show up
mysteriously when a player wins a round or does a particularly good prank.
Doubloons can be used for buying things from the trading
post.
Special
Players
Characters may apply to be the infirmary nurses or doctors if their character
knows medicine. In the same fashion, a cooking character like Sanji from
One Piece may request to be the island cook. Each of them may either participate
in the games or not, should they choose. If not, they will probably be
a very minor character.
About Abilities and Weapons
Characters will not be able to use more than one special ability no matter
how many abilities they have. The Island is a special island that has
it's own set of rules. Once a character has entered the waters within
a one mile radius surrounding the island, their abilities are completely
dampened*. No communication is possible outside of the island's territory
except the internet. Porn sites and ebay are blocked (not that Fed-Ex
will deliver anyway). All communication devices DO work between people
on the island. All your belongings will be confiscated when you enter
Living Island, and you will receive a laptop computer that connects to
the internet via satellites placed throughout the island so they can be
used anywhere. Each character may bring ONE weapon onto the island (if
it runs out of ammo, it will be auto replenishing no atomic bombs XD)
*OR they may choose to keep one of their abilities.
What You
Will Recieve
Unless you already posessed one, you will discover you now own a standard
backpack, canteen, laptop and flashlight.
Escape
There is no way off the Island once you have arrived. Your character may
try all they want, but they will never escape, there IS no escape. The
only exception is death. If perchance you die, you can either ask to be
resurrected, try for a new character, or you may haunt the Island as a
ghost. Any character deaths must be agreed upon by all characters involved.
Attempted escapes:
(1)
Vacation
or Extended Absence
If your character is harmed or you need a break from the game, your character
may be sent to the infirmary. Please let
the other players know you will be gone in the ooc
forum. You must find a reason for your character to be sent to the
infirmary. (Shoot yourself in the foot if you have to, fall off a cliff,
break a leg, you get the idea.)
Sex
There will be no sex in the game. The game is a crack game and not based
off who's dating who. You're trying to drive each other crazy, and beat
each other at this game, not do the nasty. Games that focus on sex tend
to degenerate into nothing but emo relationships and sex. If you have
a relationship with another character leave the dirty details between
the two of you somewhere else. Sometimes the 'not knowing' can be really
fun. However, violence and mischief are encouraged, you have free reign.
Naughty characters are fun!
In this vein, pranking is encouraged. But you suffer your own consequence,
and you should be prepared to receive retaliation like a man (no sexism
implied)! Also, there are monsters on the Island. You are welcome to make
some up yourself; some we have created. One, named Rosebud, moves all
over the island but no one knows exactly what it is or what it looks like
and everyone may feel free to be creative about it even if the perceptions
of Rosebud are wildly different should you post about it in your journal.
Some believe Rosebud may be a type of chameleon.
What Characters are Allowed?
You may apply as any character from TV, Movies, and books including any
fantasy or anime/manga character as long as it is published by an official
company - no original characters are allowed.
How the play works
All 'plots' may be worked out in summary, role played out in the ooc
forum or private messages, or you may talk directly to each other
in your journals. All journal posts are JOURNAL posts though, and therefore
viewable to everyone in the game as well as people outside the game, so
they should be posted in character. No posts will be 'friends locked'.
All ooc notes should be on the ooc
forums. You may fake 'friends lock' by using lj-cut
tags. The play style of this game allows much less time to be devoted
to being online for long periods of time, while still letting the game
move at a quick pace. So if you can't be on for four hours a night, don't
worry, this game is set up for people like you.
You will not post in your own journal, only directly on the community
journal. (Do with your journal what you want but other characters
will not be asked to look at it.) People outside the role play may respond
to your journal but they do so at their own risk. (Your post may come
back to haunt you.) Those who are not approved players (We, the Island,
take no responsibility if you've been rejected), may not affect game play
but may discuss, as they would with a friend, on a normal journal. So,
no sending in reinforcements (or baked goods), no 'knowing' the island,
etc.
God Modding
No twinking, your character will not always win. Life sucks. Get used
to it. Everyone's on even ground in the game. If your character always
wins, no one will want to play. Never play for another character. Never
give them 'hits' unless they have told you to. Never say what they are
feeling/seeing/doing unless they themselves have said that this is OK.
There's this thing trying to rip out my spleen...
The monsters are not nice. They'll probably hurt you, steal from you,
or make you sick/delusional/psychotic. You cannot swim away from the island
(the sharks and electric eels will probably keep you grounded anyway).
The boats are one way. Once there, it's like the Bermuda Triangle; you
can't find your way back out.
Applications
If you have read the above rules, you may now apply for a character:
Applications are
OPEN!
You may put in
HTML code for your journal posts if you choose. Try not to just copy-paste
it from word as it formats apostrophes and quotes incorrectly and adds
breaks and spacers that the Island has to remove and recode by hand. Basic
html only, for things like [b]bold[/b], [i]italics[/i]
and [s]strikes[/s]. BBCode is also allowed (shown on
the previous sentence).
Please fill out
the application form here.
If you are confused about a
section, look at the other applications to get an idea.
Once You've Applied
You should recieve a response from the Island withing 72 hours of applying,
letting you know your application has been recieved. If
you do NOT receive this notification please contact the
island on the forums . All applications will be posted on the Character
Tryouts forum for player deliberation. The players will read through
your application and submit a vote for acceptance or rejection. Some players
will give you constructive criticism so if you are rejected you may try
again with new knowledge. You may try as many times as you wish but this
does not mean you will ever be accepted. Remember, humor is a key point
as well as being in character. To be accepted you must receive at least
70% of the vote in your favor. You will be able to view the voting but
not be able to vote or post. If you have questions, please ask in the
Questions
Area. Please use the id: A Nony Mouse and password: island to ask
questions relating to application critiques. Also sign your post as ~the
(character name here) hopeful so we know which application you are refering
to. The entire game allows a player to choose to remain anonymous. Players
may not know each other and readers will not know who the players are.
You will only know them as the characters they portray. This also allows
for more fair and unbiased voting.
