Grotto Manor

The Grotto is located just across the game trail and road from the Chateau d' Heights, in the cliffs and forest off the Main ridge road.

Grotto Manor is a quaint and humble cave dwelling. This is the earliest known dwelling for humans on Living Island and is hidden behind some dense foliage. It might take you a while to find the entrance, but it is in site if the Chateau d’ Haut and it is close enough that if you call out, occupants of the Chateau will hear you clearly.

You might find the Manor to be rather dark and possibly dank, so to brighten the place up, try lighting a fire. The fire must be directly beneath the manmade vent near the mouth, otherwise you’ll smoke yourselves out. The Grotto is a wide-open cave, so it is best to keep your shoes on at all times when outside your sleeping bag.

While most animals steer clear of the cave, you must be careful of snakes and spiders. Keeping a steady fire going at night is a sure way to fend off these creatures of the night. There are six sleeping bags inside; always check them carefully before you crawl in for a good night’s sleep. If you are bitten, have your partner take you to the infirmary for medical attention and/or anti-venom immediately.
Occupants of Grotto Manor and Chateau d’ Haut share showers and latrines. The latrines can be found in a cave a bit south of Grotto Manor and the showers are just south, across the road from there. See Latrines and Showers.

Grotto Manor Legend
Being that the Grotto is the oldest dwelling place of humans, it is only fitting that the cave has several resident ghosts. Reports show the possibility of five ghosts in or near Grotto Manor.

There are two known ghosts that have thus far been reported. The first known ghost is ‘The Deer Hunter’. He was mauled by a wild Sitatunga just in front of the mouth of the cave. His spirit resides there today, and he is the one who keeps the wild mammals of the island from entering the cave. (The Deer Hunter is not a possessive ghost.)

The second known ghost is Nathan. Simply put, Nathan is a teenaged emo ghost who died by choking on his eyeliner pencil.

There have been sightings of two other ghosts. Reports say that one of them is possibly hostile, but there is no further information.

We, the Island, are not liable for any injuries sustained or deaths while staying in Grotto Manor.
